For the month of November, I am going to begin a "Fall" into fitness series (lol). The series will include things outside of working out, that also play a big part of reaching your fitness goals. Today's post will be about:
Grocery Shopping Hacks!
The essential to healthy eating lie in the trips to the grocery store. Especially for a college goer, it's tempting to just go through the frozen aisle and leave so that you don't have to spend time thinking about, or making, meals. These hacks will make it way less daunting, and keep you on track to a balanced diet.
1. Don't Go Hangry!
I live by the rule that you cannot go to the grocery store hungry, because you always end up buying all the fats and sugars. You're also way less likely to think clearly about the meals you can make out of the items you're picking up, which means less #Gainz. Make sure you go at a time when you have your grocery list prepared and after a meal,
2. Buying in Bulk
If you buy the right things in bulk, you'll be stocked with items that can help mix up boring recipes, So stay away from perishable items. I recommend buying seasonings! Splurging on many different spices can make a plain chicken breast and veggies become ten times more tasty. (My current favorite is the "Montreal Chicken" seasoning that I found at Wal Mart.)
3. When in Doubt, Portion Out
The few times I found myself at the grocery store without an exact list and the right amount of each foods, I follow the basic guide of : Protein, veggies, carbs. I buy things under each of these three categories that I can mix and match for meals later on throughout the week. An example would be:
Now I can mix and match different proteins with different Carbs and Veggies for meals until my next grocery trip, and the seasonings from earlier on can help give an extra kick.
Eating healthy can be a really difficult task, and the grocery store can seem like the devil, but it's all about balance. Try out these hacks to help you elite athletes, to weekend warriors, smash your fitness goals.
